Shark Attack!

A man has had his leg unhumanely amputated by a shark near Cape Town in South Africa, in September 2011.

The unnamed man went swimming in the water even though the area had been closed off because someone spotted a giant shark! Foolishly this man went into the water after the warning was announced. As a result the man got his leg completely bitten off just below the knee, how painful could this have been? This man was obviously not paying attention because the white flag was out on the water, which means that there is a great white shark in this area. Apparently on the exact same morning the local authorities said that three of the same sharks were spotted.

Urgently a Helicopter came to rescue him, pulled him out of the water and went to hospital by air. The Doctors say 'he was so lucky to still be alive'!

For your saftey... look out for warnings around you at all times! Plus don't forget to be careful.

Breezy Britain

Remember how much it snowed in 2010? Is it going to happen again this year?
We all like snow; but for some people like adults, it's not as fun. Because they can't go to work, and if they can't go to work it means no money, and less christmas presents. Not very good news for some of us, kids.

Weather forecasts are predicting that it is supposed to snow in later October in some parts of Scotland this year. Also, it is said that there is going to be a repeat of last years snowy weather, what if it snows even earlier than before? Imagine being dressed in scary outfits on a snowy Halloweens night! The only way to be warm and still scary people would be to dress up as a yeti.

Of course, if it will snow really bad, then there would be a lot of accidents and disruption on UK roads. The best option of getting around in snow is in a 4x4 or on a sledge, not the best way of getting to places far away. Kids really like snow, throwing snowballs and making snowmen. But what if you wouldn't be able to get out of your house?

Everyone likes christmas presents. But what if you wouldn't be able to go out to the shops to buy the latest gadgets you wanted? For some people that would be a disaster. Or for adults, it would be the best christmas present they ever wished for. Not having to spend all their money on expensive toys or new games consoles. Remember, Santa delivers presents of course. It's not like Santa doesn't exist or something.

Will there be tons of snow this year? Will we, kids, be able to get christmas presents? Or is this all a mistake, and there will be no snow? We will just have to wait and hope...

A Startling New Discovery for NASA

Ever wondered about life on other planets? Do you think aliens exist?
NASA have found a comet with the same kind of water as in the Earth's oceans. Scientists believe that NASA unveiled the key to finding life on other planets, or even comets.

NASA spotted the comet, called Hartley 2, using the Herchel Space Telescope. From this, they think that all the water in Earth's oceans came from comets like Hartley. So, you're probably asking what would happen if there were no comets in space. Here's the answer; we simply wouldn't be alive. Because water is essential for us, and without comets with water on them, oceans wouldn't exist. Which means that no life would be able to live on Earth; including plants. Although comets and meteors are so similar, meteors do not possess water. This newly found comet holds the key to finding alien life in many galaxies, such as the Milkyway.

So, is this the start of a whole new investigation into life on other planets? Does alien life really exist? If it does, are aliens going to invade Earth? It's all up to you to find out about this jaw-dropping mystery, that man kind has been trying to solve for many centuries...

Spacecraft to Launch in 2017

For many years we have been exploring our galaxy, every time hoping to find something unusual and different. The first ever space mission, to the moon, was held on the 16th July 1969. One of the crew members was called Neil Armstrong, now a very famous man in our history. After that NASA has been to the moon more times than anyone can imagine. Some missions have been successful; others not so much. But now it's time for something NEW...

Before, no other spacecraft was able to get close to the Sun because of the extremely high temperatures. All that has changed over the decades. We have manufactured new and improved spacecraft to survive almost anything. From getting hit by a meteor to ice cold conditions and blazing hot temperatures, it's all covered. The European Space Agency (ESA), along with some help from NASA, is planning to launch a spacecraft that will be able to get really close to our biggest star, the Sun. The ESA says that it will monitor the behaviour of the Sun and how it affects the things around it; such as planets and meteors.

For many years we have been hoping to find unusual life on a planet that is similar to Earth. So far we haven't succeded, but that doesn't mean that we won't find any life out there. Who knows, maybe this spacecraft will find a new planet, for example, that NASA has failed to spot? We will soon find out...In 6 years of course...

Apple launch the New iPhone 4S

Over the years Apple have been very successful in launching new devices, like the iPhone 4, and making sure they get as many sales as possible.
On the 14th October Apple will launch the iPhone 5, also known as the iPhone 4S. They say that it has the new iOS5 system; an extended battery life, a new and improved camera, voice control and many more exciting new features.

Although the new iPhone 4S looks exactly the same as the iPhone 4, it is said to be much, much better. Many people thought that this new smartphone will have a bigger screen and will look much more different than its brother, the iPhone 4. Has Apple disappointed many people hoping to see something new? Has Apple made a MASSIVE mistake for the first time?

For the people that wish to have one, it costs a lot of money, £499!

Earlier on, there was a rumour that after the launch of the iPhone 4S, the previous version of the iPhone, the iPhone 4, will cost £122. Well it turns out that it was all too good to be true. A HUGE disappointment for a lot of people who were hoping to buy the best smartphone on Earth.

However, Samsung wants iPhone 4S banned in France and Italy. Why? Well, because Samsung claims that Apple have used the 3G wireless technology, which Samsung created themselves, without paying for it. A raging war between the rival companies has been going on in courts around the world for months. In a statement, Samsung said "Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology, and we will steadfastly protect our intellectual property."
Because the 3G wireless technology is essential for the use of modern phones, Samsung has been demanded to licence this technology to other manufacturers under fair and reasonable terms.

So, while most of us wonder about the new iPhone 4S, some are very disappointed about the outcome of what was supposed to be the best iPhone yet. Have Apple underestimated what people really wanted? Or have we made a mistake in thinking that the new iPhone will be exactly the same as the previous one? Well, we'll just have to find out and see for ourselves if Apple has made what it claims to have.

Puppy Helps To Save A Swimmer's Life...

- A dog who spotted a swimmer in trouble managed to raise the alarm by barking.

A Doberman called Wilson was walking on a beach, near Swansea, with his owner when he sprung into action.

The swimmer was scared, signalling for help after becoming caught in a rip current and Wilson suddenly ran into the sea to help.

Wilson's owner Richard Absalom, who volunteers as a Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and a lifeboat crew member, went to a nearby station and launched a boat to rescue the weak, terrified man.

Richard said never in a millon years would he of seen the swimmer if it wasn't for his pet dog Wilson.

"The beach was quite busy and I was not really paying much attention to what was going on," Richard said.

"Wilson does not like water, never mind the sea, but he ran to the water's edge with a sudden burst of energy."

"Wilson never normally gets his paws wet, but his paws were in the water and he was fixed on the swimmer, barking.

" It's not like him, as he does not normally bark either..."

Junior Doctor Who!

Four amazing children from Hampshire have written a spectacular episode of Doctor Who themselves and got to watch it at a world premiere at their school!

It took them a while to complete their script, but after they had finished it, it was definately well worth it. As they all won a Nationwide Schools Competition, they got their fabulous script turned into a three-minute mini show that is going to be filmed live starring the Doctor himself, Matt Smith!

Because of their win, for an extra reward, the group also got to travel to Cardiff to see the episode called "Death is the Only Answer" that was being filmed, so they got to go and watch it, and the stars in the show practice for when it comes to filming the programme for real. Staff from Newsround went to see the world premiere of the new episode which the children had made, and to top that off there was also some special guests joining them as well...

Are Robots about to take over our lives?

Robots have evolved over the years. Before, they were simple machines, but now they are something better.
In 1961 the very first robot was made. It joined the assembly line at General Motors Plant in Ewing Township. It was nothing like the scary, metallic machines you used to see on tv.
It was an automated die-casting mold that dropped red-hot door handles and other such car parts into pools of cooling liquid, on a line that moved them along to workers for trimming and buffing.

Since the 1980's these remarkable electronic human like beings have been evolving for the better. They can do things from vaccuming to speaking and walking. Robots are so good in fact, that they have replaced humans in dangerous jobs such as mine-clearance work, to save lives.

Japan is famously known for manufacturing these human like robots. In 2005 they made a very realistic human look a like android; called Q1, that can do the same things that we can, such as blinking, breathing and speaking. If you looked at it from a distance, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Q1 and a real human being. This android can even pretend to slap someone, thats one robot you don't want to mess with. Hiroshi Ishiguru, the man that made Q1, said that when a robot looks too much like the real thing, it's creepy.

Many people wonder what will happen if robots keep on getting better, will they replace humans in their jobs? Or will they take over the planet? Well, we'll just have to wait and see what the future has in stall for us and robots...
