Bayhem!!

Michael Bay is best known for his huge explosions in his action films; but do you know how many exactly he has in his films?

Well here you are:
Bad Boys - 18 explosions - 30 deaths
The Rock - 22 explosions - 24 deaths
Armageddon - 121 explosions - 16 deaths
Pearl Harbor - 162 explosions - 153 deaths
Bad Boys 2 - 31 explosions - 63 deaths
The Island - 16 explosions - 22 deaths
Transformers - 128 explosions - 61 deaths
Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen - 211 explosions - 206 deaths
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon - 283 explosions - 78 deaths

Total onscreen death count: 653
Total explosions: 992
There is almost one explosion for each minute of Bay's 9 films; that's crazy! But it makes money, as his films show that the more explosions you have in a film, the more money you will make.

J. J. Abrams film Sequels

J. J. Abrams is going to be doing Star Trek 2, that has been titled "The Wrath of Khan". Benicio Del Toro might be starring in it as the villain but notting has been confirmed yet. Most of the original cast is returning, like Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof will return to write the script. I really enjoyed the first one; it's a great film and I cannot wait to see what happens next. I know that it will be good, as J.J. Abrams is one of my favourite directors; he also did Super 8 and Cloverfield. There are rumours about a Cloverfield 2, which would be really cool as hopefully we would find out what happen; did we win or lose the battle with the monster/alien? It's not be confirmed yet but on its IMDB page it says that it will probably come out in 2014.

James Bond 23

The new Bond film has been titled as "Skyfall". This could mean that Bond might have to fight his enemies in the air, which sounds really cool. I'm a fan of the James Bond films as I've seen every one of them. It would be awesome to see him in a dogfight or maybe fighting while sky diving; now that sounds pretty cool. Also rumoured is that Javier Bardem will be the villain but no news on who the new Bond girl will be.

children's christmas boxes!

Fill a child's life with joy this christmas.

Last chance to get a shoe box finished or even donate £2.50 (its as simple as that). Just one shoe box will change one unlucky persons christmas. Last year almost 1.2 million shoeboxes was filled with little goodies and small gifts from the UK, it would be an amazing achievement if we could overtop this. These shoe boxes are sent to some of the toughest places in the world!

Last year a little girl at the age of 6 recived a shoebox, for her family to see her open this, it was amazing. The girl used to have to move from hostel to hostel until the Government eventually found a flat for her, her mum and dad and also her 6 other brothers/sisters to live in. All she could say was "Thank you so very much! These gifts are wonderful." This is the power of a simple gift.

It is unbelivelbly easy to make a shoe box....

Obvioulsy first of all you have to find an empty shoe box, wrap it in christmas paper but you must remember to wrap the lid and the box seperatly.
Next you decide if you are going to make your genours box for a girl or a boy and choose what age you are going to be doing it for, it can be either 2-4 years, 5-9 years or 10-14 years. Finally you add your gifts.

please put some of these types of things into your box: (for example)
toys-bears, soft toys, tennis balls, jigsaws and yo-yo, etc.
Educational supplies- pens, pencils, notepad, stickers, etc.
Hygiene items- toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, bar of soap, etc.
Other items- sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of the following year), gloves, hat, scarf etc.
please note all gifts should be new!

This will change someone's christmas!

Landing Disaster

A Boeing 767, which is supposed to be one of the safest planes in the world, made an emergency landing in Warsaw, after it's landing gear failed. Onboard, there were 230 passangers who all escaped unharmed. This plane was flying from Newark, in the US, to Warsaw in Poland.

When the Boeing 767 was about to land, it's wheels had failed to open. The pilot acted quickly and informed the airport. The runway was closed to all other flights, they evacuated the area around the airport; and sprayed the tarmac, where the plane was hopefully going to land, with a flame-retardant liquid. Before making an attempt to land, the pilot circled the Warsaw airport, for over an hour, to get rid of some of the fuel still left in the tanks. If he hadn't done that then probably, when landing, the plane would go up in flames.

Then finally, the pilot landed the plane on its belly. The fire crews sprayed it with water just as a precaution. The shocked passangers were all quickly evacuated from the Boeing 767. The people on the plane were very lucky. "The plane landed safely on its belly on the runway which had been sprayed with special flame-retardant substances. All the passengers disembarked, no-one was injured," said a spokesman for the airline, LOT.

Snowtober

A devastating snowstorm hit the East Coast of the United States over the weekend. This has left more than 2 million homes without electricity. In some parts, it is said that 76cm of snow has fell; causing 23 deaths. To help the victims, crews have been brought in from as far as Michigan and Canada. They say that it could be a week until everyone gets their power back.

As it is only November, most people were surprised that it is snowing so early this year. On halloween, pumpkins were covered in snow, and some of the kids have been told not to go 'trick or treating' as it might be dangerous. Because there has been so much snow, trees have been collapsing onto roads and killing several people. The people of America are calling it 'Shocktober' because it has only snowed, at this time of year, four times in over 100 years. During this disaster schools were closed, and power lines were severly damaged. With so much snow, there is obviously going to be a lot of water after it all melts.

People are saying that the 'snow cloud' will slowly drift towards us. There might be about a metre of snow this year. If this does happen to us then it will cause massive problems for adults, because they won't be able to get to work; which means there will be less money. Less money means less christmas presents, not a good thing for some of us kids. When it snows, children are always happy because they get time off school, and get to have snowball fights with their friends. Will all this happen to us this year? How much snow will there be? We will just have to find out, and it seems that we won't have to wait for long...

An Amazing Day!

On Monday 31st of October, the year 8 student journalist team went out to interview the BBC Sports Presenter Mike Bushell! Mike was here to interview Miss Abdulkarim about the sucess she has had with sport, including the Rounders that she was playing in.

Sally Jones came to us and we asked Sally if we could possibly interview her about her past of being a BBC Presenter and about the rounders as well, seen as though Sally was the one who organised this. .

We went to speak to Miss Abdulkarim about interviewing her about what she does for sports. We managed to interview her and we talked about what sports she has been successful in and about the rounders that was going on.

Next, we asked Sally if we could possibly interview her about her past of being a BBC Presenter and about the rounders as well, seen as though Sally was the one who organised this. So again, we all interviewed Sally.

Finally Mike Bushell came, so we cracked on interviewing him! We asked Mike questions about his job as a BBC Presenter and about his sportive life. One of our questions was "what is your favourite sport?" And Mike replied that he liked football the most, out of the 125 sports he has tried. This was really interesting to find out.

Over all, all the journalists had a great day!

Mike Bushell's day at Dinnington!

Yesterday was a very exciting day because the famous Mike Bushell came to our school. He didnt come just for any reason, he came to speak to Miss Abulkarim and play rounders with her and also play with some other people who i am going to tell you about in a moment. He was interested in Miss Abulkarim because she is actually the first Muslim to be interested and been involved in this kind of sport (rounders). Some of those other people who were playing as well as Miss Abulkarim are out of the England under 18 rounders players, believe it or not 5 of those players are from Dinnington Comprehensive school! As well as Miss Abulkarim been the first muslim to do this sort of thing, she also made it into the over 18 rounders team herself.

It was espcially interesing for ''Phoebe Morton'' Emily Booker, Maisie Waring, Alisha Hall, Georgia Westwood, Andrew Barringer and Chris, this is because as student journalist's we got to film, take pictures and interview Mike Bushell. It was very interesting to do this because we found out: What is his job like?, does he enjoy what he does? and what is his favourite sport?

After interviewing Mike, Mr Carr went up to a lady and we found out she was a news reporter back in the 80's but she also works with Mike, for this reason we asked if we could have an interview with her too, it was also nice to do this with her aswell as Mr Bushell!

Washing Machine Accident

A 3 year old boy has only just survived having his arm ripped off by a washing machine when he opened the door during its spin cycle.Rachel Roberts rushed her 3 year old son Lewis Lightfoot to hospital, but the doctors were unable to save his arm because of the severe damages from the accident. Rachels other child (5 years old) watched the accident as Lewis screamed for his mum to help him.

Rachel was in the living room at the time of the accident and only came out as she heared her son screaming loudly."When I asked him about what happened, he said, 'I opened the door and went round and round and then my arm fell off,'" Rachel told the news."I can't believe he was able to open the door so easily. It was terrifying. I'm devastated," Rachel later added.

A report from Yahoo News that in the Perth suburb of Hilton last year, three-year-old Sean Murphy and his cat was found unconscious in a front-loading washing machine in the family home. Both the toddler and the cat died in the tragic accident.

Looks like Jurassic park 4 is deffo happening, as it even has a IMDB page up that says Sam Neil and Jeff Goldblum are rumoured to be back. Is that a good or bad thing? Well we have to wait and see.

The Adventures of Tintin - Secret of the Unicorn review

Tintin and Captain Haddock are hunting for treasure from a sunken ship but they're not the only ones...

Now i've never watched any of the original TinTin cartoons/films; I'm completely new to it all. It's a film that families and TinTin lovers will enjoy but I found it to be a bit predictable and like Indiana Jones with out a whip, it lacked some of Steven Spielberg's magic that he used on films like Jurassic Park, Jaws and ET. The computer animation was very good; the sets looked real and the characters looked like the original ones in the cartoon, but the 3D was okay, because not much popped out at you so I wouldn't go watch it in 3D. It's not worth the money. They're a lot of old references from the cartoon that I didn't pick up but other people will have.

Peter Jackson confirms that he's making a Tintin 2 if this film does well at the box offices. Tintin's original film made $510,000, so this one has a lot of pressure to do well.

Over all I give this a 6.5 out of 10; it lacked magic and was more for kids and families. I would rent it but not buy it or watch it at the cinema, as it was okay but not fantastic.

Film Review: Paranormal Activity 3 (spoilers)

Paranormal activity 3 is a prequel to the other 2 films; Katie gives a box of old videotapes to her pregnant sister, Kristi, and Kristi's husband, Daniel. A year on Kristi and Daniel's house is burgled and the only thing missing was the tapes. So what was on the tapes? Well, then the film goes even more back to Katie and Kristi’s childhood and it seems they didn’t have a normal one.

I must admit I did jump a lot and maybe I hid behind my hands but I did not scream. I watched it with my friends; but I wouldn’t watch it alone as you will get mega frightened. But don’t worry, as they’re some funny parts to lighten the mood for a bit. This film is great to watch with friends as you can all hold hands and be scared together. They are some awesome scenes in this film; my favourite part is when the mum is in the kitchen and it's a mess, stuff everywhere. She walks out and then returns in a second and finds all the stuff on the sides of the kitchen are gone. Then suddenly the stuff falls from the ceiling, smashing all over the floor (everyone jumped of of their seats at this point).

The problem with all the Paranormal Activities films is that the characters are stupid. If your house had ghosts in you would leave; not film it to make it angrier. In one scene, the ghost/demon is attacking one of the girls; she is screaming and being thrown all over the place, yet the parents were watching TV and sleeping; how did they not hear her? Also they’re lots of good clips in the trailer that made me want to see the film that wasn’t even in the film. One scene I was looking forward to is when the Kristi is painting and her mum is beside her. Kristi tells her mum that the ghost/demon is next to her; the mum looks around and says, “I can’t see him.” Then Kristi says, “He’s standing right next to you.” and throws water on the demon. You can see the outline of him and he gets angry and throws things around.

Over all I think this is a good film, you will enjoy it if you liked the first two or if you like a good horror film. I give it a 7 out of 10; check it out at the cinema, don’t wait for the DVD; it’s not the same.
