News Reader Asleep On BBC

For years presenters of early morning TV shows have talked about their early starts and yet they never show signs of tiredness... until now anyway.

At around 8:30am on Friday morning ‘BBC Breakfast’ cut to their BBC News Channel counterparts only to see newsreader Simon McCoy seemingly sleeping at his desk.
Viewers spotted him with his head resting on his arms, with many taking to Twitter afterwards to point out the gaffe.
One tweeter called Neil Tam-I'm, said: "LOL at Simon McCoy being caught napping during a live bulletin!”Sleeping newsreader McCoy took to Twitter himself to laugh off the incident. He joked to one user: “I was not asleep! I had just been told The Queen wanted me to cover her NEXT visit…”

He later said it was “a long desk head-banging that wasn’t meant to be picked up in the BBC1 opt!!”It’s not the first time Simon McCoy has made the headlines with his strange antics. In 2009 he was caught doing push-ups at his desk and a year later the BBC had to apologise after a weatherman was caught on camera making a rude gesture at McCoy.

Lego shuttle almost gets to space

Romanian space fan Raul Oaida has taken a Lego rocket to a whole new level.

With the help of a massive helium balloon the little shuttle reached the mega height of around 35,000 metres - almost to the edge of space!

He couldn't get air traffic clearance for the lift off in his home country so had to travel to Germany to do the experiment.

Luckily he attached a small camera to the rocket to record the amazing
journey so others could see it!

Have a look for yourself at http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/17286817

One Small Step For Man, One Giant Leap For Lego.

A teenager has paid his own tribute to the defunct NASA shuttle programme by sending a Lego version of the craft into space.

Raul Oaida built the tiny replica spaceship from the famous building blocks in just three days, gluing the Lego bricks together and attaching the toy shuttle to a helium balloon which took it 22 miles towards the edge of space. The 18-year-old Romanian also attached a parachute to the vessel along with a GPS navigation system and an on-board camera to record the flight. The video footage shows the Lego model climbing through clouds and eventually soaring high above the Earth with ice particles forming across the toy. The mini shuttle was launched from Germany and spent three hours withstanding 320mph winds on the edge of space before landing in a field 155 miles away from the launch site without a scratch. While the US might have spent £124 billion putting shuttles in orbit, Mr Oaida's expedition was distinctly low budget costing just £1,600.

Health experts in California say the chemical could cause cancer if drunk in very, very large doses.
Coca-cola says the recipe will change to avoid the warning lable, but weren't convinced the chemical was a risk to humans.

Solar Storm, a Danger to Earth?

The Sun is a huge star that the Earth orbits around. It keeps us warm and gives us precious light. But, it has been playing some tricks on us lately.

Have you noticed spots appearing on the Suns surface? Well, they are not ordinary spots; they are something way more dangerous. As the Sun rotates, plasma inside it churns violently. This creates a magnetic field. The Sun spots twist up their magnetic field as the sun turns, this magnetic field stores energy. Overtime, this energy is stored in the twisted sun spot. It creates a loop of plasma flowing across the stars surface. When the magnetic field becomes too twisted, it can snap just like a rubber band; creating a solar flare. It is then sent hurtling towards the Earth at millions of kilometres an hour.

But what pulls the trigger of a solar storm? The Sun is blowing magnetic bubbles off it's surface, if these bubbles are not blown hard, then it just expands slowly. But if the Sun blows a lot with its magnetic field, then this bubble of plasma breaks off and flows into space towards Earth.

The solar flare explosion has a power of a billion atom bombs; that is a lot.

The Earth has a magnetic field around it. It is open at the North and South Poles. This magnetic field protects Earth from many things like meteors. Also, the magnetic field naturally repels solar storms of a North Polarity. This unfortunately means that solar storms with a South Polarity can get through and damage all the electronic devices. The satellites within a certain height above Earth will suffer badly and could veer off course and crash on Earth.devastating news for all NASA satellites.

A solar storm is hitting Earth TODAY. We have an image of what damage it can cause after previous solar storms. Scientists say that there are going to be more solar storms over the next two years. Let's hope we are prepared for what will come in the future...

Apple Launch New iPad

Is it a tablet? Is it a laptop? No, it's the new iPad. There are rumours going round that it will be called the iPad HD because of its 2,048 by 1,536 pixel display; which is sure to grab everyones attention.

This new iPad also has a new A5X chip which will improve its performance by a mile. As well as all this, the iPad will have a new 5 megapixel camera, which will be able to record stunning HD videos and take incredibly detailed pictures. However, it is a little bit thicker than the last model but hardly anyone will be able to notice that. This already irreplaceable piece of technology can also act as a wifi hotspot for other Apple devices.

What about the price? Well, what can we say. The previous iPads price has dropped to £329, a perfect opportunity to buy one if you have been waiting for a long time. This new iPads price will be £399 for the 16GB model all the way to £659 for the 64GB model which includes wifi and 4G. Phil Schiller, Apple's marketing chief, has said that the battery will last for 10 hours before you have to charge it again; which is good news for all those gamers out there.

The tablet will go on sale on the 16 March in the UK, Switzerland, Germany, France, the US and in Canada. Apple probably expect the sales to be pretty high for the next couple of months for both the iPad HD and the iPad 2. Who knows what Apple will come up with next? Maybe some sort of amazing contraption that can respond to brain waves, or a touch screen TV?We will probably find out in the next few years...

New iPad launched with HD by Apple

Apple has launched its latest tablet from the iPad range and the big news is it's got HD.
The amazing new tablet will not be named as iPad 3 it will be named and just an ordinary iPad.
It includes a high definition screen and this means you can play HD videos and it camera records in HD, too.
Powered by a high speed A5X chip the new iPad can connect to faster 4G networks and can even act as a wi-fi hot spot for other devices.

But the 4G won't work in the UK for a while as there isn't a 4G network here yet.

The tablet is slightly thicker than iPad 1 or 2. This is because it needs to pack all the new stuff in, but there's been no big design change to the shape of the iPad.

It's the first major launch of an Apple gadget since the death of the company's co-founder Steve Jobs in October, it is due to go on sale on 16 March in the UK.

Give it a try and ask your parents!

The U-2 spy plane flies so high the crew have to wear space suits that
restrict their movement, so they can't get a good view of the runway.

the plane down safely to the runway.
Ellie followed the U-2 in a high-speed chase car while she and another pilot spoke to the plane's captain, telling him how close he was to the runway and when he had to touch down

Government scraps homework rules

Government scraps homework rules for English schools. Michael Gove, the man in charge of Education, says head teachers can now decide how much homework to set or whether to set any at all.

This is taking place because some parents complained that too much homework is set for childeren, this means kids did not have enough time to play, do sports or be with their family.

Before, five- to seven-year-olds were expected to do an hour a week, gradually increasing to 2.5 hours each night for pupils aged between 14 and 16.

Headteachers will now decide how much homework their pupils will do.

What are your thoughts?

hand shake 'ban' for the Olyimpics

British athlete's have been advised not to shake hands with opponents and VIPS as they could catch a bug that is going around, that would affect there performance at the competition.
The British Olympic Association, is warning athletes about a mild bug that the athlete's could catch by shaking each others hands.
If one of our athlete's caught it it would mean, less chance in winning, a pour performance and also it could also mean if they got the worst case withdrawing from the competition!
