Gym & Dance Evening - A huge hit!

On Wednesday the 21st and Thursday the 22nd of March 2012, at 7pm in the Main Hall, there was an event called Gym and Dance Evening, that takes place just about every year at Dinnington Comprehensive School.

Everybody is welcome to come and watch this spectacular event. This amazing event is where students from our school, perform and show off their talents. We had acts from dancing, gymnastics, trampolining and singing! The audience were wowed as more and more brilliant acts took to the floor!

We all know that the olympics is arriving to London soon, so we thought it would be a great idea if we could bring some olympic spirit to our main hall. So we decided to get some willing students to act daft pretending that they are an olympic torch hopeful or athletes, and they all did a slow motion walk around the hall, passing the torch to each other. When the last person got the torch they did the walk to Mr Blackwell, and when they passed it to him the light went out, the whole room went black!

Overall, all of the talented students who parcipitated on the night had a great time! And I'm sure we all can't wait until next year's Gym and Dance Evening when we will perform again, showing the brilliant talents Dinnington Comprehensive has!

Gym and Dance evening!

The Gym and Dance evening (an amazing event) took place on Wednesday the 21st of March and Thursday the 22nd of March in the main hall.
The Gym and Dance night is a chance to show off your talent. It's a great time full of entertainment. The talents that are taken place at the Gym and Dance evening are dance, gymnastics, trampolining and singing, all jam packed with comedy.
Seen as though it is the olympics this year, we held the torch at our very own, Dinnington Comprehensive School, students dressed up as athletes or future flames, they then did a slowmotion walk around the hall whilst high fiving the kids. Sound good? It was!

Can't wait for next year!

BBC School News Report Day

On Thurday the 15th of March 2012 loads of schools across Europe got the chance to plan and film their own mini BBC News (school style) for a day.
<--- A map of how many schools took part in this event.

When they had finished filming and they had put it all together, they would send it to the BBC so they can upload it to the BBC School Report Day website.

Basically on the day of Dinnington Comprehensive's BBC School Report Day, we headed straight to ME1 where we collected and wore our own BBC School Report badges and ID Cards. After, we started off by looking on the internet to see if there was any interesting news going on around the world. Then, we began to collect the news we had found, and we chose the ones that would be best to go in our short film. When we chose them we began to put that news into our own words.

After lunch, when we had all printed out our own news write ups, we all got together and put together a final script of what the 4 presenters were going to say. We had things like the headlines at the start of the film, and we had strange news like TOILET DESKS, and more serious news about how PEOPLE ARN'T ALOUD TO SHAKE HANDS AT THE OLYMPICS!

Near to the end of the day we finally began to film our end product, and overall it turned out GREAT! All the student journalists had a great time, a day not to be forgotten!

If you want to find out more about what happened on the day then why not head over to the BBC School Report Day website where you can watch what other schools like ourself made for the amazing day.

New Ride at Alton Towers proven 'to scary' for under 12's!

A new ride at Alton Towers theme park has been described as "too scary" for children under 12.
Im sure everyone has heard of the theme park, Alton Towers. A great family day out. Well it is opening on the Saturday 24th of March 2012 for the new term, and while it has been closed they have built 2 new attrractions for the park, one is called "Nemesis Sub-Terra" and the other is like a mini short cinema thing, it's called "Ice Age 4D." Those 2 new attractions will be up and running on the 24th March.

Well, It's the first time a theme park ride has been given an age rating by the British Board of Film Classification, which normally gives ratings to movies and games. But not this time...

The Nemesis Sub-Terra ride, known to be the most scariest and most exciting ride Alton Towers has ever built - which runs completely in the dark!! AND ITS AN UNDERGROUND RIDE TOO, has been given a 12A age rating because they think that it is not suitable for kids under the age of 12.

It's only an advisory rating, but Alton Towers say they will stick to it. This could be a huge dissapointment for some....

BBC news report day.

The BBC news report day finally came on the 15th of March. It was a great day.
At first we planned everything out and chose our most facinating stories to go on our news. Some stories were quite serious such as English going down hill, but others were hilarious such as Toilet Desks made in China (where on earth did this idea come from?)
Towards the end of the day we started filming and this was mostly down to the presenters, the presenters were Maisie, Emily, Andrew and myself Phoebe.
We had a really fun time doing the news but it was also challenging. Sound good? It is!
Why don't you watch it now by going on to our website! But you must prepare yourself because you will not want to stop watching eventhough it is almost 30 minutes long!

French School Attack!

A man riding a scooter has fired shots at a Jewish school in the French city of Toulouse, police say.

A teacher and three children are said to have died in the attack, according to reporters in France.

A teenage boy was also seriously injured.

Attacks near schools like this are extremely rare. That's why it has been such a shock.

Women Wants Her Hand To Be Cut Off And Replaced With A Bionic One.

A British woman is considering having her hand cut off and replaced with a bionic one after she lost use of her right arm following a car crash.

Nicola Wilding, 35, suffered serious neck and shoulder injuries 13 years ago, which left her entire right arm paralysed. Although nerve transplants and physiotherapy allowed her to regain movement in her upper arm, her hand has remained paralysed and withered. She is now hoping to have the hand removed because she said it is “useless” and merely gets in the way. Mrs Wilding believes a bionic hand would change her life by allowing her to carry out basic tasks such as cooking and dressing. She said she was inspired to take the drastic step after seeing a television news bulletin about an Austrian man who underwent elective amputation to have his withered hand replaced with a prosthetic one.

Jurassic Park in 3D!!!

Universal Pictures has confirmed that Jurassic Park will be re-released
on the 19th July in 3D. In 1993, Jurassic Park grossed $915 million worldwide; Universal believes that the 3D re-release will push the film over the $1 billion gross mark.
I can't wait to see Jurassic Park in 3D; I loved it as a child and still do today. It’s my second favourite film of all time! I strongly recommend watching it.
