David Cameron Needs A History Lesson!

David Cameron appeared on a U.S show and when asked about British History he stumbled as he didn't know the answers.

"I'm a history obsessive, I'm sorry I didn't do better" Cameron said when asked in Brazil about his appearance. "I think, when I get home and do my children's homework I'll have to sit down and do a little extra myself" he added.

He failed to say the English name for the Magna Carter (Great Carter) and said the producer of Rule Britania was Edward Elgar instead of Thomas Arne.

Cameron on 'The Late Show'
Someone from Cameron's team answered the question correctly almost immediately when the show was being recorded. Back at home the Prime Minister became a massive joke as people were questioning how is he the prime minister if he doesn't know simple history of Britain.

Despite the fact of graduating from Oxford University he's not the smartest in history!

Villa Smashes City

On the 25th of September Aston Villa and Manchester City played for the fourth round of the League Cup.

Aston Villa smashed Manchester City 4-2. In the first half Aston Villa were equalising from Mario Balotelli and Gareth Barry put an own goal against the opponents team. There were many chances Aston Villa could have scored but they couldn't pull it off. Their main chance was at the tenth minute when Villa passed into open spaces however Andreas Weimann stopped the chance. Later in the first half in the 27th minute City scored again putting Villa behind when the whistle was blown. The second half was the same as the first but just before the end Villa got the equaliser. Extra time started and N'Zogbia and Agbonlahor scored the two winning goals in extra time. This lets Aston Villa go through into the next stage.

Happy Birthday Google!

14 years have now past since the internet's most popular search engine was first created. The technology giant has now gone onto bigger things, but the Google search page has remained largely the same since 1998, with few aesthetic changes over the years. A 'Google Doodle' has been used to signify the occasion. This comes only a day after the Google Play store achieved it's milestone 25 billion downloads.

Google was founded by two university students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The website was initially a university project named 'BackRub', the name 'Google' is a misspelling of googol (1 with 100 zeros). This was at a time when the web was relatively new and basic. Google search has now surpassed over 1 billion unique visitors in a single month. The company is also known for Android, the world's most popular mobile OS, Chrome, It's in-house browser, and a variety of other successful websites such as YouTube, Gmail and Blogger.

You can view the animated birthday cake doodle on the Google homepage for a limited time only. Otherwise, there's always next year...

Manchester United defeat Newcastle (2-1)

Last night Manchester United defeated a strong Newcastle side at Old Trafford to advance to the next round of the Capital One Cup. It was a hard fought contest that saw the reds score two goals to better the magpies one in a very entertaining match… The big news before kick-off was that Darren Fletcher was making his full return after nearly a year out recovering from a serious bowel condition. He took his place in a starting eleven which, if you are a Man Utd fan watching them for the first time in a while you may struggle to recognize. Here’s how the teams lined up;

Man Utd: De Gea, Vermiji, Wootton, Keane, Buttner, Cleverley, Fletcher, Anderson, Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez.

Subs: Johnstone, Evans, Powell, Lingard, Brady, King, Tunnicliffe.

Newcastle: Elliot, Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Tavernier, Obertan, Tiote, Gosling, Marveaux, Vuckic, Shola Ameobi.

Subs: Harper, Anita, Cisse, Amalfitano, Bigirimana, Sammy Ameobi, Ferguson.

The first half was actually a little slow- Newcastle had some good chances and United struggled to respond, the likes of Rooney and Hernandez were barley seen on the ball and the fresh defense found it difficult without veterans Vidic and Ferdinand. Newcastle seemed to be missing something as well, the “talisman” striker Papiss Cisse who was sitting on the Bench and Demba Ba who was left out all together.

Later in the half, United starting getting into their stride, although the strikers still seemed absent, Tom Cleverly missed chance after chance including a howler on 35 minutes which was harder to miss than score! Anderson in particular looked dangerous with multiple impressive shots to test Rob Elliot before finally beating him with a stunning strike to break the deadlock on the stroke of Half Time, his first goal in almost a year.

The second half started much like the first, with Newcastle posing a threat to De Gea’s net although not as strong as the first half an equalizer was looking a dead cert with Vukic and Ameobi amongst the contenders. United seemed confident of a second goal and were pushing to create it before Tom Cleverly finally broke and hit a curving shot from the edge of the area to net his first goal in a United shirt and make a two goal deficit between his team and the visitors, Newcastle’s manager Alan Pardew quickly made a clever substitution bringing off Vukic replacing him with Cisse in the 61st minute… a sense of fear was felt throughout every Manchester United fan watching the match and for good reason- Cisse has a tendency to score… a lot… his wonder strike against Chelsea towards the end of last season was deemed the best of the campaign and it didn’t take him long to showcase his talents. Within a minute of coming on he nodded the ball past the man between the sticks for United bringing the score to 2-1 and a genuine atmosphere rang out from the away end anticipating that they weren’t quite out of it yet.

Hernandez struck the bar later on which sent Newcastle hearts into mouths before the magpies really started to push sensing they could steal an equalizer from the hands of Sir Alex and every red devil in the world. Attempt after attempt came and went, the best of which was another Cisse effort in the 82nd minute a stunning overhead kick which ricochets the crossbar and is greeted by a collective gasp of air from the spectating Geordies.

Despite their best efforts the score remained the same and United went on to take a place in the fourth round… next up for the reds? A trip down south to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Electric Car World Record

A German electric car has set the world record when it drove 375 miles without recharging its battery.

Mirko Hannermann drove the yellow and purple Audi A2 from Munich to Berlin in seven hours, without recharging! German Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle, who jumped inside for a quick drive in the courtyard of his ministry, called Hannemann's trip a technological quantum leap. "Today, we have shown what cars can do" Hannemann quoted. So far, consumers have been put of by the short driving range with electric cars which is usually 60-100 miles depending on the battery size.

The four-seat Audi A2, funded by German utility lekker Energie and the German Economy Ministry, has all features of a regular car, including a fully usable trunk. He drove the car at 55 miles per hour on average. "This is a great success," said Andreas Goerdeler of the German Economy Ministry. "We are in a fierce global competition and this proves that we're technological leaders."

Four Year Old's Message In A Bottle Travels 10,000 Miles By Sea.

A message in a bottle thrown into the sea by a four-year-old British girl has washed up 10,000 miles away in Australia.

Jasmine Hudson and her family couldn't believe it when they got a letter from a woman who found her message on the other side of the world.

Nursery pupil Jasmine threw the bottle into the sea while on holiday in Bournemouth.

It took five months before Barbara Richards picked it up on a beach in Australia while looking for sea shells.

Jasmine had originally hoped the bottle would reach Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, where an aunt lives.

She wrote her name, address and the date on the note in the hope someone would reply.

"I was really excited when I got a letter from Australia," Jasmine said.

"I'd forgotten that I'd thrown the message in the sea. I thought it might have been eaten by a shark."

Rain Fun

A surfing instructor has fun in the wet weather, by riding the waves on a flooded road in west Yorkshire.

Oli Barret, a body boarder, was filmed being towed by a car on the A656 in Castleford. Yorkshire has suffered heavy rainfall over the last few days caused by the worst September storm for 30 years. The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said "Luckily the A656 had been closed due to flooding at the time".

Rare Blue Whale Spotted In Australia.

A rare blue whale has been spotted in the sea near Sydney, Australia.

It was about 30 metres long - that's longer than a local swimming pool.

It's thought blue whales, which weigh as much as 15 buses each, are the largest animals in the world. Around 5,000 of them exist.

Jonas Liebschner, a whale watcher, said: "It is very, very rare to see a blue whale off Sydney. I think the last confirmed sighting is over 20 years ago."

36 Giant African Land Snails Seized At Airport.

A man's been stopped from smuggling 36 giant snails into Scotland.

The live giant African land snails were seized by border control officers at Glasgow Airport.

The were found in the suitcase of a Nigerian man who said he was bringing them into the country to eat.

The snails were found in his luggage after he took a flight from Amsterdam earlier this month.

The snails are about 15cm in length, with shells the size of a small human fist.

You need a special license to bring live animals into the country, which the man did not have.

The snails were seized and passed on to a rescue organisation.

Murdo MacMillan, from Border Force in Scotland, said:

"Our officers at Glasgow airport stopped these snails from entering Scotland, and possibly posing a risk to our native plants and wildlife."

Grandad Saves Dog From Alligator!

An American grandad wrestled with an alligator after it dragged his pet dog in to the water.

Stephen Gustafson said he took a "flying leap" on to the creature's back to save his West Highland Terrier, named Bounce.

The 66-year-old had been gardening outside his home in Florida, America, when the alligator attacked his dog.

Mr Gustafson said the tussle lasted about 30 seconds before he was able to free Bounce.

"She let out a 'yelp,' and I looked up and the gator had her in his mouth and was taking her far out," he told an American news channel.

"I saw the dog moving into the water and ran down the short hill in my backyard and just took a flying leap and landed flat on the back of the alligator."

"We were all under water, I grabbed his jaw and pinned it shut," he said.

Bounce was finally rescued and the alligator swam away, but was caught by wardens later on.

Rise In 'Handbag Dogs' Ending Up In Animal Homes.

More and more pampered pooches are being handed in to animal homes because owners can't cope with their bad behaviour.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London says they're worried with this trend - they've seen a 40 per cent rise in the number of these dogs coming through their doors this year.

It's not unusual to see celebrities carrying their miniature pets in their handbags or under their arms.

But the pampered lifestyles can mean some dogs develop behavioural problems, such as not being used to walking on the ground or on a lead.

Poor dogs.

3 Times Lucky For Lottery-Winning Family!

A family in Norway have hit the lottery jackpot 3 times in 6 years! All the wins have been put towards a birth of a new baby!

The latest winner of the lucky family is 19-year-old Tord Oksnes who won 12.2m Norwegian krone (£1.3m) last week on the Norwegian national lottery.

Before him, his 26-year-old sister Hege Jeanette won a massive £882,000 in 2010, only four years after their 58-year-old father Leif won £441,000 on the same lottery.

Now that's what you call lucky!

They say its down to the pregnancy of one of the members. It has happened on three times when she was pregnant or in the hours she was giving birth.

When asked about the family's secret to winning the jackpot, the lucky mother replied: "Getting pregnant."

I wonder how many people will try this tactic in the UK...

Her other brothers, who haven't yet won the lottery have begun paying attention to the size of her stomach, she added.

"They're urging me to have at least 10 children, having children is always nice, but it doesn't happen on command."

The family have said their winning numbers were chosen by a machine, not by them, making it completely random, and that they would never use the planned birth dates of the children.

Tord said he'll keep his job and his sister still works at the petrol station she worked at before the winning, however she's currently on maternity leave...

Will this be another win for the Oksnes family?

Car Park Fails!

Don't you just hate it when your in a busy carpark, you've driven quite some way to get to your destination and there are no more spaces left? Many people would just try and park some-where else or go home. But not these people....

This person went all out by some-how managing to fit their car in between two cars, genius! Only one thought though...how did the driver get out of the car?

Talk about greedy!
This driver took up two spaces! He must of needed his leg room when he got out of his car. Fair enough a LandRover is a big car, but not that big that it needs two spaces.

CAR PARK FURY! Totally annoying. Don't you agree?

Google Launches 'Virtual Diving' Reef Tours

Have you ever wanted to see under the sea like your a scuba diver? Well google have created an application just for that!

Google have launched an underwater street view style application where panoramic images are used make it look like your underwater!

They have teamed up with Catlin Seaview Survey to increase the awareness that the underwater world needs protecting.

"This is a critical decade for coral reefs," said a Catlin project director "We need to be recording them as fast as we can and involving people to halt the decline, which is alarming at the moment."

A small team of Caitlin divers have helped by diving under the water and taking the images and later sent to google to set up the online-application.

"You don't have to be a scuba diver or even know how to swim to explore and experience six of the ocean's most incredible living coral reefs," said Google Maps and Earth vice president Brian McClendon.

The new underwater locations include the Great Barrier Reef, the Molokini Crater, and the Apo Island marine reserve.

Pumpkin Shortage.

Farmers say there will be a shortage of pumpkins for this Halloween because of the bad weather

Pumkins will not be orange in time for halloween because of the bad weather, producers has warnedThey say that there with be a 20% shortage as the weather has caused them to be delayed in their growth. Lincolnshire pumpkin growers are racing against time to get the crops harvested before the winter frost comes. Around 40% of the pumpkins at David Bowman Pumpkins, which is Europe's largest producer of them, are still green due to the cold summer. "It's terrible, pumpkins don't like the wet and cold and that's what we've had all summer," said Mr Bowman, whose farm normally produces two million a year, around three quarters of the British crop.

"By now the pumpkins should be orange but they are still green and in the growing stages". Because, prices for the successful pumpkins would most likely rise and the shops could sell early. The harvest normally starts on the 1st of September but it was delayed to the 10th.  Luckily some of the pumpkins were reasonably coloured and are being sheltered inside so they can ripen.

Vampire Squids Eats Poo, Snot And Dead Fish

After decades and decades of research, scientists believe they've finally found out what vampire squids eat - and the news is pretty gross.

A new study reveals that the scary looking animals diet mainly on poo, snot and dead fish.

The findings come as a bit of a surprise, as it was thought they may eat live prey like their relative, the octopus.

The scientific name for what they eat is 'marine snow'.

In the past researchers have caught vampire squids in nets and tried to figure out what they ate by examining the contents of their stomachs.

However, the results have never been very clear, their stomachs typically containing bits and pieces of tiny, shrimp-like animals and lots of slimy goo.

But now with the use of new high definition video scientists have been able to monitor the animal's eating habits accurately.

The vampire squid uses two thread-like special sensors to capture bits of debris that sink down from the ocean surface into the deep sea.

The debris is then covered in mucus and put in to its mouth.

The Final Encore? Blackberry's unusual publicity drive...

In a time when the Canadian manufacturer is failing to win over sales from Android and Apple smartphones, the firm decided on a more unique approach at their Blackberry Jam conference. In a confusing and somewhat desperate attempt to attract developers, Blackberry showed off their self-made music video titled "Devs, Blackberry is going to keep on loving you".

A parody of "Keep on loving you" by REO Speedwagon, the song consists of lyrics such as "We'll have Blackberry 10, both in full touch and QWERTY editions", "Our new updated SDK is really cool" and "A whole new computing platform may be a tough proposition". The instruments and vocals were all composed by members of the Blackberry team and the video is available to watch on YouTube. It is currently processing the amount of views, but has sparked a heated debate in the comments section. Who knows, it could be number one in the charts soon... Somehow I doubt it.

Trampolines, a danger to kids?

Doctors in the USA have said trampolines are huge health hazards an children should restrain from using them.

The AAP (an American company) estimates that almost 98,000 people are injured each year in the US on trampolines and many are children. They want to raise awareness in many other countries.

The UK authorities agree as they say its a sport which is becoming more popular by the day in the UK but the amount of injuries from trampolines are also on the rise.

Dr Michele LaBotz said: "Families need to know that many injuries occur on the mat itself, and current data do not appear to demonstrate that netting or padding significantly decreases the risk of injury."

Researches have said the most likely injured will be when there is more than one person is on the trampoline. Also children under 5 are the most likely to get serious injuries.

48% of injuries on the trampoline lead to dislocations, fractures and breaks. Some can be life affecting, for example if you land a somersault wrong its could result in spinal problems and devastating consequences.

UK authorities have said trampolines can be fun as long as there is adult supervision and only one person is on the trampoline at once. Trampoline injuries occur less when there's adult supervision.

So next time your on a trampoline be careful and make sure you have supervision because more than 50% of injuries on the trampoline leads to hospital!

Apple iPhone 5 Glued To Ground Fools Amsterdam

An Apple iPhone 5, which was available to buy in the Netherlands on Friday, was glued to the pavement in one of Amsterdam's busiest squares, the Leidseplein.

The team from iPhone5 set up a video camera nearby to catch people's reactions to the technology treasure on the floor.

Time and again, the camera captures passers-by trying to pick up the phone. Most of them giggle or run off as soon as they realise that it is glued to the floor.

One passer-by stamps and kicks the iPhone 5 to try to unstick it from the pavement.

People Rescued From Flooding On Rafts As Heavy Rain Continues.

People have been rescued on emergency rafts and told to leave their homes as heavy rain and flooding continues to hit the UK.

Ten people, plus a cat and a dog, were taken to safety on inflatable rafts by firefighters in St Helens, Merseyside. Around 200 homes have been evacuated in the north-east of England and more than 50 areas, mostly in the north of England, have been issued with flood warnings with up to a months worth of rain expected to fall on Tuesday.

According to the Met Office, the people who monitor weather in the UK, up to 10cm of rain could fall in some areas. Strong winds are also expected in parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland, with gusts of up to 70mph in coastal areas. Flooding has closed some parts of major roads and caused disruption on some train services.

In North Yorkshire, six people had to be rescued from vehicles stranded in floodwater on Monday night.

Apple Sells Over 5 Million iPhones

The Apple iPhone 5 was released on Friday 21st September. Since its release over 5 million copies have been sold leading to low stocks.

On Monday it ran out of the initial stocks meaning that lots of pre-orders will be postponed until October.

Tim cook said "We are working hard to build enough iPhones for everyone."

William power added "We believe that sales could have potentially been much higher if not for supply constraints."

The low stocks are likely to affect apple deeply as the smartphone is released in 22 more countries on Friday and in more than 100 countries by the end of the year meaning they will need as many as possible.

The iPhone 5 has topped the iPhone 4S sales already. The iPhone 4S only had 4 million. However the iPhone 5 is still in competition with Googles android powered smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy's.

Synchronised Toilet Flush

Over a million people will take part in a synchronised toilet flush to unblock Zimbabwe's sewers.

There has been a build of waste in Zimbabwe's sewers so the authorities in Bulawayo have asked residents to flush their toilets at 7:30 (local time) today (Monday) to clear the waste.

This build up has been caused by the limited amount of water. The city has had to ration water for over 72 hours of a week, which has sparked the build up of waste. The city's mayor, Thaba Moyo, said the mass flush could possibly become a weekly event.

He said: "We are going to have a big flush every Monday to push all the waste that would have accumulated during the water rationing. It means everybody has to flush their toilet at the stipulated time which will be 7.30pm."

The poor sanitation has caused numerous disease outbreaks in Zimbabwe in the previous years.

Last October, more than 6,000 cases of diarrhoea were reported in southern towns of Zimbabwe. Most of the cases were in children.
