Help With Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

(Self generated)

In classes, if students choose to listen and behave, can learn a lot about a foreign language in just one lesson. But for pupils who want to go that extra mile and extend their learning even further than is classes, there is another option available to them… THE INTERNET!
The internet is a fantastic way of extending your learning and helps out with things you are not sure about. Maybe you just want to get some help on a few words/sentences or maybe for pupils wanting to achieve more, help/lessons on things that get a higher grade and that are more advanced. Whichever way pupils can simply go online and visit some sites that help out with learning a foreign language. If you are one of these students, here are some examples of helpful and popular websites that our school regularly uses to help pupils with their learning…

Linguascope (for KS2 àKS5)
Here students can get lessons on some useful vocabulary, complex sentences/paragraphs and much more. This website is not one of those boring sites that give you basic, long and hard questions to answer and doesn’t help you out one bit! This clever website has questions and lessons that are adapted to students of different ages, from KS2 to KS5, so you will be sure that this site has something for you. Also this site makes learning more fun and enjoyable as all the lessons are games. When you learn the basics of the subject you are on, the lessons turns into a fun, enjoyable and educational game.
To get into Linguascope you need a username and password...

Mi Vida Loca
Mi Vida Loca is located on the BBC website. It is an interactive drama mystery where it takes you on a journey of a visitor in Spain. Throughout the game you will learn bits of Spanish about how to say and pronounce words/sentences. You will be asked questions and will be expected to answer them as accurately as possible. This site will help you with your pronunciation of Spanish and will teach and show you what it is like in Spain. As well as it being a drama mystery, it is also very educational and fun to follow along. There are parts where things get very hectic and serious but on the other hand there are parts where it is relaxed and sociable. Throughout the mystery you will be given questions to answer which will then be added up at the end. When you have finished you will be able to print off a certificate saying that you have completed the mystery and it will show you how many marks you got out of 100. If you print this off and give it to your Spanish teacher you will automatically receive commendation (20 achievement points). To get involved with this mystery, simply go to: www.bbc.co.uk and type in MVL in the search bar.

Languages Online
Languages Online is also very educational indeed. Here you can choose from a variety of languages to learn about. When you have chosen your language, there are a whole load of different topics and activities for you to choose from. Some topics have a few activities while others have around 20-50 different activities for you to have a go at and complete. When you click on an activity it will bring up the first question and from then on you complete the rest of the questions which will result in what score out of 100 you get from answering the questions. You are spoilt for choice to what kind of activity you want to do, whether you want to do something on future tense or if you want to do something on animals, it has it all! Also this site has absolutely great grammar in it which adds to the amazement of the website. To access this site simply go to: http://www.languagesonline.org.uk/

iMessage Killing Text Messaging?

Recent figures show that more people are using data based messaging, iMessage for example, leaving a decline in normal messaging; which now costs a fair amount. An analyst stated that texting was down in the third quarter of the year, to 678 texts per user each month from 696 texts in the previous quarter. Therefore, texting revenues have experienced an unusual decline. However, this does not mean that a decline is being experienced by network providers at this moment.

This dip was also noticed by American businesses that provide mobile phones for employees; on average one employee is sending 5 to 10 percent fewer text messages than last year. Surely this has to be a good thing, right? People can now waste less money on texting and not worry about running out of credit. Moreover, network providers don't experience a revenue loss, so it doesn't really matter to them.
